The price of $1400 could be a bit steep, but it is often available to make it more affordable. The unit looks fantastic, and the base station takes up very little space in the corner of a room.

The design of this robot addresses the issues we've faced with other robotic mop and vacuum units, such as brushes that get tangled up in hair and the brush not being able to reach bare flooring beneath furniture. The sweeping performance on carpets and bare floors is also impressive. The vacuum/mop unit has a high amount of debris removal, and the mop can absorb the bare floor quickly.

The mops also use a smart system to clean around the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot is able to effortlessly avoid obstacles like food bowls, toys and backpacks. However, it could get stuck or entangled with smaller and flatter objects like shoelaces, USB cables, and pen.

This robot was used to mop and vacuum hardwood flooring, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a huge open-plan home. It vacuumed and mops the 90 square meters in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled.  robotic vacuum cleaners  is about the average for Gen 4 robots.

Miele Scout RX3

Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the world of robot vacuuming. This new robot aims to take that to the next level by incorporating high-end features and superior cleaning performance.

The RX3 has a dual suction system and intelligent navigation that includes 3D mapping and a camera which transmits a live image to your smartphone for easy control. The RX3's powerful four-stage system provides excellent dust collection on hard and carpet floors. Swing-out side brushes with dual suction channels, and easy-to-use controls keep corners clean. Its 8.5 cm height lets it reach under low furniture. Front cameras and infrared sensor aid in navigating obstacles, thresholds, and obstructions with ease.

The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it cleaned baking powder from baseboards and corners. Its 2,500Pa suction was weaker than other robots, but it was still very silent and moved swiftly. It didn't mop however its washable pads were a bit difficult to attach and could not deal with dried-on dirt.

The app doesn't have advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It supports Alexa however its voice commands aren't intuitive or responsive. Also, it's a bit flaky when it comes to returning to the charging station following a run Other robots can trace a previous path or even follow a wall around until they reach their home, but the RX3 simply bumbles around until it quits and then sends a message about failure to your phone.

Another issue we had was with its intelligent features, specifically the mapping function and the digital keep-out zones. It was effective in keeping our furniture legs and shoes away but it was easily caught on cables, socks and rugs. That's why we chose not to include it on our Best Buy list. However, with a reasonable price and impressive performance, the Scout RX3 is worth considering if you're looking for a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
